Worked table — how each course counts
| Course | Grade | Points | Credits | Quality points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| — | A | 4.00 | 3 | 12.00 |
| — | A | 4.00 | 3 | 12.00 |
| — | A | 4.00 | 3 | 12.00 |
| Total | 9 | 36.00 |
GPA = total quality points ÷ total credits = 36.00 ÷ 9 = 4.000
- A+ converts to 4.33 — above your college's 4.0 cap.
- Every graded attempt counts: if you retook a course, BOTH grades enter the calculation.
- Academic forgiveness / grade replacement at your school has no effect on the LSAC GPA.
- Pass/fail, withdrawals (W), and incompletes are not included unless punitive.
Frequently asked questions
- Why is my LSAC GPA different from my transcript GPA?
- Two rules cause most gaps: LSAC counts every graded attempt (a forgiven or replaced F comes back into the math), and A+ converts to 4.33 instead of being capped at 4.0. Mark forgiven courses in the table and the calculator shows both numbers side by side, with the delta.
- Do withdrawals or pass/fail courses affect the LSAC GPA?
- Standard W grades and pass/fail courses are not included. Punitive withdrawals (WF) that your school treats as failing are converted as F. Select P or W in the grade menu and the row is excluded with a note.
- Which courses does LSAC include?
- Every undergraduate course taken before your first bachelor's degree appears in the calculation — including community-college and transfer credits, whether or not your degree school counts them.

How the CAS rules behind this calculator work, in plain language.
- Why is my LSAC GPA different from my college GPA?
LSAC recomputes your transcript under its own rules — A+ = 4.33, every repeated attempt counted, school grade forgiveness ignored. Here is why the two numbers differ and how to see your own gap.
- How does LSAC count repeated courses?
LSAC includes every graded attempt of a repeated course — the original grade and the retake — even when your college replaced or forgave the first one. See the arithmetic and how to enter retakes.
- What does an A+ counting as 4.33 mean for your LSAC GPA?
LSAC converts an A+ to 4.33 and uses a thirds scale (A− = 3.67, B+ = 3.33). What that does to your law-school GPA, who benefits, and a worked comparison against the standard 4.0 scale.
